Social issues to be addressed during Hispanic Heritage Month
Fiestas del Llano, Inc. is continuing its series of recognizing contributions from Hispanic in different areas including culture, art, sports, etc., during Hispanic Heritage Month, which ends October 15.
· On Monday, October 13, 2003, join Tommy Gonzales, interim City Manager, as he addresses organizations about issues impacting the city of Lubbock during a State of the City Address. The presentation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Hastings Entertainment Store, located at 4th & University.
· On Wednesday, October 15, 2003, TTU Law Professor, Frank Rene Lopez will lead a social commentary on Affirmative Action, at 5:30 p.m. at Hastings Entertainment Store, located at the corner of 4th & University.
Sponsored by Fiestas del Llano, Inc., the goal of these events is to provide some mutual insight to the community and presenters alike, as well as to create opportunity for discussion.
National Hispanic Heritage Month provides an opportunity to express deep appreciation to Hispanic Americans for their countless contributions to society and to pay tribute again to America's distinctive diversity. Hispanics also celebrate the practices of commitment to family, love of country, respect for others, and virtues that transcend ethnicity, reflect the American spirit, and are nobly exemplified in the Hispanic American community.
