PRESERVING CULTURE & HISTORY THROUGH THE ARTS
In a continued effort to preserve the advancement and presentation of Hispanic arts, culture, and humanities, Fiestas del Llano, Inc. is introducing new highlights to be held in conjunction with the Fiestas Patrias Festival.
Festival organizers will be featuring a variety of workshops from piñata making, to the significance of the deiz y sesis de Septiembre (The 16th of September); an art exhibit featuring local youth and amateur artists; a historical exhibit presented by the Southwest Collections; and Teatro en Español, featuring students from Texas Tech University.
Among the variety, Hastings Entertainment Store will present a children’s story telling hour in Spanish on Thursday and Friday during the lunch hour. In addition, chess matches and demonstrations will be held daily to introduce the educational game to young minds and interested attendees.
The four-day multi-arts, multi-event festival will be held September 11-14 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Fiestas Patrias draws thousands of people daily, and will continue to feature all of the traditional activities many have come to expect, including authentic foods, games, live music and dance stages, a parade, the Miss Hispanic Lubbock Scholarship pageant, and a full carnival included in the affordable cost of admission!
This year the traditional “Grito de Dolores” normally held in conjunction with the festival will be held on September 15th, at an off sight location at Our Lady of Grace Church, at 3111 Erskine.
