Art exhibit to add color to festival
In a continued effort to preserve the advancement and presentation of Hispanic arts, culture, and humanities, Fiestas del Llano, Inc. is encouraging artists of all ages to be a part of the first art contest and exhibit to be held in conjunction with the Fiestas Patrias Festival. The multi-arts, multi-event celebration including Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and Cultural Arts will be held September 11-14.
Art exhibits will include the youth and amateur categories. Acceptable media for both categories are crayon, paint, pencil, markers, ink, photography, cloth, and collage. The Art contest will be open to students 17 years old or younger, in competition categories including elementary, junior high, and senior high. The Amateur Category will feature the work of artist ages 18 and up. Only one piece of work per artist will be accepted.
Artist may design their work using this year’s festival theme “Celebrating Heroes of the Past, Present and Future”. Participants are encouraged to utilize work previously prepared, and should use an array color and flare expressing their creativity.
The four-day festival, which will be held September 11-14, draws thousands of people daily, and features food, games, cultural activities, and live music stages. The traditional “Grito de Dolores” will be held on September 15th at an off sight location.
The 16th of September holiday otherwise know as Mexican Independence Day, locally celebrated as the “Fiestas Patrias”, has become a community wide event that encourages participation from all Lubbock residents.
