CARS CHOSEN AS MEDIUM FOR ARTISITS
Applications for classic and Lowrider car show being accepted
Fiestas del Llano, Inc. with Local Lows Magazine will be adding the first Classic and Low Rider Car Show as a highlight to its schedule of events during the 2003 “Fiestas Patrias” festival.
Artists who have chosen cars as their medium of expression will showcase their passion for art and their heritage on Sunday, September 14th, during the festival.
The car show will be divided into three entry divisions of car, truck and bike, with two sub-categories. First Classification will include street custom and mild custom; 2nd Classification will include lowrider, truck, bomb, and bike.
This is the first time that festival organizers will showcase lowriders, a distinct, and often misunderstood art, which depicts the heritage, and is now an international craze. Originally, the popularity of lowriders started in the 1930’s but boomed in the 1940’s after WW II. The interest continues to grow and be showcased as one of the attributes of the Hispanic culture.
Artists and car enthusiast may pick up applications at the retail office of Local Lows Magazine at 5302 Ave. Q, Suite 18, or online at www.fiestasdelllano.org/Fiesta.asp. Registration fees for the event are $25 for vehicles, and $15 for bikes. Category winners will receive a trophy, and one cash prize will be awarded for overall best of show.
