Today, the 16th of September holiday is a community wide event that still
encourages Lubbock residents to embrace the Hispanic culture and participate in
a traditional celebration.
For over 50 years, “Fiestas Patrias”, an event sustained by Fiestas del
Llano Inc., has flourished, and continues to grow, leading it to become one
of the most recognizably known festivals of its kind in West Texas. The
annual festival draws thousands of people daily, and features food, games,
cultural activities, and live music stages.
The multi-day festival, now held for many years at the Lubbock Memorial Civic
Center, draws participants from the Lubbock area and as far as New Mexico,
Austin, and San Antonio.
Multiculturalism is just one important message that Fiestas del Llano Inc.
wants to share with the community. The pageantry, the music, the dances, and
commemorative ceremonies are a presentation of wholesome, educational and
cultural programs. Through this balance of programming and entertainment
Fiestas del Llano not only showcases the talented people of Lubbock, but
also helps to promote the diversity of Lubbock.
